Lead Guide Information

The Lead Guide program is made up of volunteers that are willing and able to dedicate their time to the entire event. As a Lead Guide, you make yourself available everyday from Thursday, July 7 thorugh Sunday, July 10 from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm, plus a training session prior to the event.

Lead Guides will assist the daily Guides with venue monitoring, venue support, interactive village and information positions. You will be assigned to a specific venue and work with the ESPN staff to coordinate the daily Guides. Guides are positioned around the competition areas and will assist with crowd control and spectator access points. The more you know about the venue and the event, the more you will be able to assist the daily guides and the spectators. All Lead Guides are expected to attend a training session prior to the event.

We ask that all Lead Guides be flexible with their assignments. Your assignment for the day will depend on the no-show rate of daily guides, competition schedule, weather conditions and the overall event needs. Often this role can be physically demanding, especially if you are standing in the same position or walking for a while. Although duties, weather changes and physical activity may be challenging, you will find that working alongside the Great Outdoor Games staff will make the work exciting and rewarding.

Lead Guides will check in each morning, have a brief meeting with the Volunteer Coordinator and receive their assignments. Some Lead Guides will be assigned to departments that have requested additional assistance during the entire event. More information will be provided once you are accepted into the Lead Guide program.

Why be a Lead Guide? Lead Guides are considered an important arm of the Great Outdoor Game staff. You will receive:
