PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jason Williams of Duke has had a super season already. Last week he showed why he's one of the best players in America.
Against a Boston College team that was hot, Williams scored 34 points and dished nine assists in a victory over the Eagles. He followed up with 24 points and seven assists in an ACC win over Georgia Tech.
Williams can do it all -- shoot on the perimeter, force turnovers, dish the rock. He is my PTPer of the Week.
DIAPER DANDY OF THE WEEK
Miami was smiling last week as coach Perry Clark's team scored two big upsets, beating Providence and Connecticut.
One key was the play of freshman guard Marcus Barnes. He scored 20 against the Friars and then had a career-high 24 in the win over the Huskies. Barnes hit six trifectas against Jim Calhoun's team.
SHOCK OF THE WEEK
Georgetown came into Saturday's game against Pittsburgh unbeaten. But the Panthers had something to say about that.
Ben Howland's team came through much like it did against Seton Hall a week earlier. The Panthers beat the Hoyas 70-66 behind the play of Ricardo Greer and Julius Page, handing Georgetown its first loss of the season.
TEAM OF THE WEEK
Just when people were starting to write off Arkansas, the Razorbacks came through with two big Ws. First came a win over Auburn followed by a big-time victory over a talented Alabama team.
Arkansas plays to the style of its coach, Nolan Richardson. He's a fighter and you can tell his team was fighting hard last week after a disappointing SEC start.
COACH OF THE WEEK
It was great to see Lute Olson of Arizona back on the sidelines after sitting out several games following the passing of his beautiful wife, Bobbi. Olson came back and Arizona played to its potential with two big wins in Pac-10 play. First the Wildcats took care of USC; then came a solid win with a strong second half against UCLA.
